6-Week Weights

I finally, FINALLY had an opportunity to weigh the babies today. I missed the 4-week mark, so this will have to do. Here they are:

Acer's litter (NZR/Creme - all red):
  • Doe: 2 lbs, 13 oz
  • Buck: 2 lbs, 10 oz
  • Doe: 2 lbs, 8 oz
  • Buck: 2 lbs, 12 oz
  • Buck (? this one keeps throwing me off. Split penis, maybe?): 2 lbs, 8 oz
  • Buck: 2 lbs, 12 oz
  • Doe: 2 lbs, 8 oz
  • Doe: 2 lbs, 5 oz
  • Doe: 2 lbs, 13 oz
  • Doe: 2 lbs, 7 oz
  • Buck: 2 lbs, 12 oz
Luckily the two heaviest kits in this litter are does! Yay! So there are two possible contenders to replace their mother.

Here are Cardamom's (Full NZ):
  • Broken red doe ("Little T" - she has a white "T" on her forehead: 2 lbs, 15 oz
  • Broken red buck: 2 lbs, 15 oz
  • Broken red buck: 2 lbs, 14 oz
  • Broken red buck ("Big Boy," I'm calling him): 3lbs, 1 oz - he's a nice one, too bad he's not a doe
  • Broken chestnut buck: 2 lbs, 15 oz
  • Broken red buck ("Freckles"): 3 lbs, 0 oz
  • Broken chestnut buck: 2 lbs, 15 oz
Hers are larger than Acer's, but I was expecting that. "Freckles" and "Little T" are promised to a lady in Chattanooga.

Here is a younger shot of her, where you can see her "T":

Remember this one?

Here is "Freckles" at 6 weeks.

Overall I'm happy with their weights.

Meeting the chickens
There's no change in Babette. Her kits are looking really good, though:

I can only pray that I have several does, and that those does do not take ill. We'll just have to wait and see!

We really need to hang some more cages so I can make more room for the kits. Acer's 11 are all crammed into one 36 x 30 and I'd really like to separate them out so they can have more room. I may select some culls from both litters to put in the grow out pen, or I could just go ahead and process some.

Cardamom is due on May 23rd, and that will be the last litter before summer sets in. This week we'll be getting our first real taste of summer temperatures, but I have a bunch of 2-liter ice bottles in the freezer ready, if needed. It seems like just yesterday that I was bundling the kid three times a day to fill water crocks. Now it's finally barefoot weather!

Happy Monday, everyone!

  1. Happy Monday to you as well! They look good! Sorry there is no change in Babette. I bought a really nice Rex doe back in the day, from a really big time (REALLY big time) Rex breeder out of Wisconsin, and every time she kidded she'd get the snots and her front paws would get all crusty from wiping her nose. She had to go.....and I later found out that the entire herd of that big breeder was full of snuffles.....too bad, but I think it's a big problem in a lot of big breeders rabbit herds.

  3. Good weights and beautiful rabbits! I am kind of obsessed with that freckled one, lol. I'm also sorry to hear about Babette- I keep rooting for her just in case something should change for the better.
